Backup fails with error message about "destination directory"

Couldn't create the destination directory "\\Server\Backup\database 2011-08-01 12;00;003": The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect
The history file for "Databse Backup" will not be saved because the result of the backup is empty

OR

Couldn't create the destination directory "P:\Backup\My Documents\": Cannot create a file when that file already exists

Possible solution

The first thought is that there is a file/folder security issue; the user may not have the required access rights.

Another solution

Normally you want to run the backup application as a service. This may create access issues with a domain. Change the setup to run Cobain as an application.
